Homebody Club featured in Mindfood Magazine (August/September 2023)

Homebody Club’s founder, Lucy Green, was featured in Mindfood Magazine, August/September 2023, sharing her experience with self-care and chronic illness. Read below for the exerpt.

For some people, self-care is non-negotiable. Lucy Green, 31, lives with rheumatoid arthritis and lupus and uses self-care practices such as cold water exposure and breathwork to manage her health.

"Self-care isn't a luxury or a fad for me, it's a way to be able to live my daily life."

In 2018 Green found herself feeling excluded from the wellbeing industry where the loudest voices were those of able-bodied people who didn't understand the experiences of people with invisible illnesses and disabilities. To combat this, she started Homebody Club, an inclusive space for people interested in wellbeing and self-care.

"It's so important that wellbeing is accessible for all, not just the glorified bodies we see in the media. I want to show that there isn't a 'one size fits all approach' to self-care.

We all have different brains and bodies and self-care needs to be adaptive and inclusive to cater to this," she explains. Green has noticed the increased commercialisation of self-care in recent years, noting that there have been times she has felt pressured into buying products. However, she also observes that if a self-care product leaves you feeling nourished, grounded and calmer, then it's doing its job.

The trick to knowing the difference, Green says, comes from within. "I define self-care as listening to yourself and answering your body or mind's needs accordingly," she adds.
